Disorders of the Visual Pathway

Disorders of the Visual Pathway

To the tune of “Let Me Down Easy” from Daisy Jones and The Six

[Verse 1]
Loss of sight in one eye is
Due to damage
To the retina or optic nerve and
Called monocular blindness

[Pre-Chorus]
Right nasal hemianopia
Is caused by a lesion
In the lateral
Optic chiasm

[Chorus]
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Conversely if the damage occurs outside
Of the brain then vision loss
Is restricted to only one eye
Rather than one visual field

[Verse 2]
Lesions near the calcarine sulcus
Can be the cause
Of quadrantanopia
Or scotomas producing blind spots

[Pre-Chorus]
Lesions of the occipital lobe
Often spare the macular region
Because of double vascular supply
To this area in V1

[Chorus]
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Conversely if the damage occurs outside
Of the brain then vision loss
Is restricted to only one eye
Rather than one visual field

[Chorus]
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Damage to V1 impacts vision in both eyes
And in one visual field
Conversely if the damage occurs outside
Of the brain then vision loss
Is restricted to only one eye
Rather than one visual field
