Virus-Host Interactions

[Verse 1]
There are four types of interactions between a host and virus
Stable, evolving, and dead end and those that are resistant

[Verse 2]
Both virus and host survive and multiply in a stable interaction
May infect multiple species, some are effectively permanent

[Chorus]
Passage of a virus into a naive species
Evolving relationships are defined by instability

[Verse 3]
Dead-end interactions are a frequent outcome
Of most cross-species infections

[Chorus]
From a new host there is no transmission
To others the same species — does not cause natural infection

[Verse 4] 
Finally there are resistant virus-host interactions
Where there is an exposure event, but cells are not permissive
